Report your findings and contribute to BiodivOcean

One of the most exciting parts of the project is discovering which species have settled on the discs. By reporting your findings, you can share your observations with other participants and contribute to a growing picture of marine biodiversity in different parts of the world.

BiodivOcean uses two open online platforms for reporting observations: iNaturalist and MINKA. Both are designed for sharing observations of species and getting help with identification. You do not have to be an expert – if you are unsure what you have found, the community can help identify it. iNaturalist also provides an AI-based identification tool that can suggest possible species.

Reporting an observation is simple. Create an account on iNaturalist or MINKA, join the BiodivOcean project, photograph the species you find on your rack and upload your observation. You will also be asked to provide some additional information related to the BiodivOcean experiment.

Once your observation has been added to the BiodivOcean project, it will become part of our shared collection of observations. After a short while, it will also appear on the BiodivOcean Observations pages, where findings from participants in different parts of the world can be explored and compared.
