At first glance, tunicates hardly look remarkable. Often mistaken for sponges, blobs, or bits of rock glued to piers and reefs, these soft bodied marine animals are easy to overlook. Yet tunicates (also known as sea squirts) are among the most fascinating organisms in the ocean – not only for their unusual lifestyles and striking diversity, but because they are the closest living invertebrate relatives of humans.

From August 2nd to 10th, 2025, BiodivOcean will participate in the Swedish "West Coast Week" organized by the Västragötaland Region. Over nine days, the BiodivOcean project will be showcased to visitors in two exhibition tents visiting a total of 18 different locations.

Today, the BiodivOcean project finished its 1st Partners' meeting in Barcelona with all partners from Norway, Sweden, Spain and the U.S present. During the 3-day meeting, the partners got to discuss in depth the next steps of the development of the project, its structure and goals. It was also an opportunity to share expertise and knowledge amongst partners, and do lots of brainstorming for future activities.
